A four-week eurythmy project

International youth eurythmy event

The "Tanz dein Leben e.V." ("Dance your life") association has been organising the world's largest youth eurythmy project WHAT MOVES YOU every two years since 2012. After a trial period of approximately four weeks, the participants present their programme at two public performances.

A total of 160 participants from over 20 countries met in 2012 and 2014 in Berlin as part of the WHAT MOVES YOU project to work together on a large artistic eurythmy programme. In cooperation with professional artists such as eurythmy choreographers, actors and musicians, for example, large symphonic programmes with works by Beethoven, Dvorak and Pärt, among others, were prepared. In addition to the eurythmy workshops, there was a diverse range of other artistic or humanities subjects available to the participants during this trial period. The conclusion of the project consisted of two public performances of the rehearsed programme.

The aim of this initiative is to expand the range of eurythmy offers for young people beyond the environment of Waldorf Schools and thereby raise the awareness of the public for this form of expressionist dance.

PROJECT DETAILS

Who is involved in the project?

The body which is legally responsible for the WHAT MOVES YOU project is the non-profit association Tanz dein Leben, which was founded in 2011 and whose headquarters are in Heidelberg. The association promotes art and culture, especially projects for children and young people in the field of eurythmy, as well as education and training. In 2012 the project was accompanied by the camera of the renowned Swiss documentary filmmaker Christian Labhart and his team. The result was the first ever film on the subject of eurythmy and a documentation of the four project weeks in Berlin. The film "What Moves You - Jetzt kommt alles in Bewegung" ("Things are now getting moving") was shown at more than a hundred cinemas in Germany and Switzerland and was seen by a total of around 13,000 people. In the winter of 2013 it also came out on a DVD.

What are the funds of the MAHLE FOUNDATION specifically used for?

The funds of the MAHLE FOUNDATION were used for the two projects WHAT MOVES YOU 2012 and 2014. These two projects relied to a level of more than 50 per cent on funding from grants or donations. With the funds provided by the MAHLE FOUNDATION it was possible in particular to enter into the cooperation with the Youth Orchestra of the Gnessin Conservatory in Moscow. The funds helped to cover the travel costs and professional fees of 40 to 50 orchestral musicians. In 2014 the grants were also partly invested in the costs of hiring the venue, the Arena Berlin.
